About the Event

Education and Digital Skills in the AI and Disinformation Age

AI and digitalization are transforming every sector, from education and workforc development to political discourse. Ensuring that citizens—especially young people—are equipped with the right skills to navigate this transformation is a shared responsibility between policymakers, industry leaders, innovators and educators Through this roundtable, we aim to establish a clear roadmap for national and EU-wide initiatives, fostering an inclusive, innovative, and resilient digital future.

Now is the time to act—by shaping education today, we prepare for a future where technology serves humanity, rather than undermining it.

With this roundtable, we will focus on future skills, digital literacy, and preparing new generations for the evolving job market. As AI reshapes industries, education systems must shift towards learner-centered, lifelong learning models that emphasize critical thinking, adaptability, and digital discernment. This session will explore global best practices, innovative tools, and policy frameworks that ensure individuals remain competitive and resilient in a rapidly transforming economy.

A key aspect of the discussion will also address how education and digital skills can act as a defense against AI-driven disinformation in Europe. As AI-powered platforms increasingly shape public discourse, equipping citizens with AI literacy, media integrity awareness, and cross-sector collaboration strategies will be critical for maintaining trust, innovation, and competitiveness.

Roundtable I: Education and Digital Skills in the AI and Disinformation Era

Objectives

Exploring how digital skills can infuse our education goals for the next decade — starting with the first years and integrated at all levels in the educational journey. We also want to touch upon how digital and AI literacy serve as a vital defense against algorithmic-generated disinformation spread in Romania and across Europe. The discussion will focus on:

  • Educational policies that promote digital and media literacy.
  • AI literacy as a fundamental skill for navigating the digital space.
  • Media integrity and strategies to counter AI-driven disinformation, particularly on social networks.
  • Cross-sector collaboration among policymakers, educators, and tech companies to strengthen public resilience against disinformation.

Expected Outcomes

  • Clear strategies for integrating digital skills training into European education systems, along with policy recommendations for strengthening digital literacy across the EU.
  • Commitments from stakeholders to support cross-sector collaboration, facilitating dialogue between technology companies, policymakers, and educators to combat disinformation.
  • Concrete steps for the responsible integration of AI in education, through both formal and informal programs, alongside policy recommendations for a pan-European approach to AI literacy and critical thinking in the digital age.
This roundtable will highlight the essential link between digital skills development and the fight against disinformation, ensuring that AI innovation and media integrity go hand in hand.
